Any tips for taking care of palms, pachira aquaticas, or broad-leafed tropical plants inside the home?
Some of my tropical house plants get a bit browned on the outer leaves. I live in a west-facing apartment in the middle of Kyoto, which gets pretty warm in the summer sun.
Have a lovely day!
yeah, keep them in shade with a bit of dappled light. Moist areas are especially good (such as bathrooms). Kepp moist but don’t over water.
Where can I buy exotic tropical fruit online?
I mean, mamey sapotes, quenepas (a.k.a. spanish limes), guavas, mangosteens, durian fruit, breadfruit, rose apples, etc. I know they sell both fresh and frozen fruit in Florida, but there are almost none of these fruits for sale here in San Diego, even though some can be grown here! I guess the demand isn’t high enough for any profit. Do I have to go to Puerto Rico just to taste these?!?
Ohh, mangosteens I think will be verrrry hard to find.
Durian – just a warning, it’s pretty horrible, in my opinion – you can buy fresh at the Ranch 99 Market in Clairemont Mesa. I think you can find guava there too, but I’m not sure if my memory serves me correctly. I’m sure you can get the durian there, though.
San Diego Store – Ranch 99

You can also buy durian, mangosteen, and rambutan online here:

You can buy guavas, mamey sapotes, and "uniq fruit" (sorry, not on your list, but sounded interesting) online here:

Mmm, breadfruit is highly perishable, so I think you may be hard pressed to find that one even online. I know you can buy them fresh in Hawaii, but I don’t know of anyone in Hawaii that ships to San Diego, sorry.
Gerry’s Fruit Bowl on Marsh Creek Rd in Brentwood, CA sells rose apples in the summer; check with them to see if they’ll ship to you (925-634-3155 ), but I think rose apples are out of season (they were in season in August).
Hope this helps…
jackfruit, Rollinia, Durian the Stinky fruit, Guanabana-Soursop. Where can i buy "hard to find" tropical fruit?
I live in Southern California and I’m trying to find these tropical fruits but they’re hard to find because they’re not grown here in the states. Rollinia is found in Brazil or Hawaii, jack fruit is found in southeast asia,Guanaban-Soursop in the islands, asia or mexico but I’m sure there are some special shops or ethnic grocery stores that have them in LA or somewhere close by.
Lol I have sour sop and jack fruit trees in the farm.. too bad I live 10,000 miles away from you or I’ll give you some..
First poster is right, Asian food stores might carry durian and jackfruit although you have to wait until they are in season,,, Some Filipino stores might carry soursop nectar/juice if that’s fine with you.. Also try some Caribbean stores and such who also might have them from time to time…
By the way, there is a farm/fruit distributor in Hawaii who specializes in such fruits… I forgot the name but you can try a search among Hawaiin food companies/farms
