unless you want to bring disease into your tank then don’t do it
I suppose you can try it, but it might introduce a bacterial or fungal infection to your current fish. I’ve put minnows in my tropical fish tank with no problems, but they were also bred just for fishing. My Cichlids loved them.
I agree that that is very risky. There is no telling what wild creatures could have, and unless you were willing to quarantine them in another tank first, you shouldn’t do it because you put the rest of your fish at risk. Who knows, they could even introduce diseases that your local fish store doesn’t even have medication to treat.
You should quarantine them first. It isn’t a good idea to introduce anything new to your established tank without quarantining them first. Anything new might be carrying a disease. You don’t want to give your fish any diseases.
