Where can I buy exotic tropical fruit online?
I mean, mamey sapotes, quenepas (a.k.a. spanish limes), guavas, mangosteens, durian fruit, breadfruit, rose apples, etc. I know they sell both fresh and frozen fruit in Florida, but there are almost none of these fruits for sale here in San Diego, even though some can be grown here! I guess the demand isn’t high enough for any profit. Do I have to go to Puerto Rico just to taste these?!?
Ohh, mangosteens I think will be verrrry hard to find.
Durian – just a warning, it’s pretty horrible, in my opinion – you can buy fresh at the Ranch 99 Market in Clairemont Mesa. I think you can find guava there too, but I’m not sure if my memory serves me correctly. I’m sure you can get the durian there, though.
San Diego Store – Ranch 99
7330 Clairemont Mesa Blvd.
San Diego, CA 92111

You can also buy durian, mangosteen, and rambutan online here:
http://www.blueproduce.com/default.aspx
You can buy guavas, mamey sapotes, and "uniq fruit" (sorry, not on your list, but sounded interesting) online here:
http://www.melissas.com/index.cfm
Mmm, breadfruit is highly perishable, so I think you may be hard pressed to find that one even online. I know you can buy them fresh in Hawaii, but I don’t know of anyone in Hawaii that ships to San Diego, sorry.
Gerry’s Fruit Bowl on Marsh Creek Rd in Brentwood, CA sells rose apples in the summer; check with them to see if they’ll ship to you (925-634-3155 ), but I think rose apples are out of season (they were in season in August).
Hope this helps…

Why would you want to buy fruit online?

froggygirl (or ignorantgirl)? people buy things online because they are housebound or have no means of transport to get to the shops or loads of other reasons.
Whatever you do, do not buy from these websites: They are operated by the same people but using different websites. I had ordered from one of their websites and they are a scam. They took the money and never ship the tropical fruits.
Please beware of these sites:
1-800-organicfruitofthemonthclub.com
24hoursbestbuy.com
I contacted them and they referred me to someone else and never answered back nor explain why the fruits were not shipped.
In addition to the above sites that you need to be aware of, I am adding two more that are operated by the same scam:
buyexoticfruits.com
http://www.fruitclub.net
Please note that they are reputable sites that you can order tropic fruits on line:
http://www.lycheesonline.com (for lychees and longans)
http://www.localharvest.org (they represent a number of tropical growers and ship a variety of tropical fruits from Florida). They are the best in terms of being trustworthy and having a variety of tropical fruits with reasonable price (particularly shipping)
A number source that you can check is using: http://www.tropicalfruitgrowers.com
The website will provide you with information relating to the type of fruits and which vendors sell/ship. A useful site to make sure that you are searching the right information.
I have checked on line many sources trying to ship tropical fruits to my mother in the states and have learned a valuable lesson particularly from the con artists from the above 4 websites (2 I mentioned in previous email) and remaining 2 in this email.
